PHOENIX -- The stars of A&E's "Duck Dynasty" have made no secret about their Christian faith. In fact, they do a prayer around the dinner table at the end of every episode. Now they're tied to a Scottsdale company that's making one of the many faith-based movies coming out this year.
Duck Dynasty's Willie and Korie Robertson joined Scott Pasmore on Friday's Good Morning Arizona to talk about the new film from Pure Flix Entertainment, called "God's Not Dead." The movie opens in 600 theaters nationwide on March 21.
"We're super-excited about this," said Willie. "Korie and I were able to screen it with our about a week ago. It's a pretty neat deal. They approached us about the movie and we looked at the script and we loved it. And we said, hey, we're in!"
In the movie, college freshman and devout Christian Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper) finds his faith challenged by a dogmatic and argumentative philosophy professor (Kevin Sorbo), who requires his students to disavow the existence of God on the first day of class or face a failing grade. Josh finds himself having to choose between his faith and his future.
This movie is one of several new movies based around faith. "I think Hollywood pays attention whenever the numbers come," says Korie. "People start watching, money starts pouring in and Hollywood pays attention. With Duck Dynasty, the viewers have definitely voted on what kind of show they want to see, and I think it's about the family entertainment. People love to sit down with the whole family and watch it together."
Willie says he thinks movie viewers should be able to see themselves in some of the characters. "There are skeptics in there, straight-up non-believers, believers who have to find their faith and be able to explain it, and I think you'll be able to find yourself in one of those characters," says Willie. "And, hopefully by the end of the show, if you're of faith, you'd be able to explain that better. And I learned a lot!"
"It's a really smart film," says Korie. "It's funny; it's inspiring. I think people will really enjoy it."
Willie Robertson stars in A&E's hit show "Duck Dynasty" and is the CEO of Duck Commander, a family operated business that creates products for duck hunters including duck calls, clothes, and videos. Willie, along with his wife and business partner Korie Robertson, also owns and operates Buck Commander where they create products for deer hunters. Willie took the family duck call making company from a living room operation to a multi-million dollar business. Korie helped her husband grow the company into an ever-expanding enterprise and serves as the Duck Commander office manager. Willie and Korie live together with their four children, John Luke, Sadie, Will, and Bella, in West Monroe, Louisiana.
