SCOTTSDALE -- A new restaurant says "Aloha" to the Valley food scene!
Coconuts Fish Cafe opened back in April on the corner of Scottsdale and Bell Roads. The new restaurant offers a taste of Hawaii, and boasts that "Our fish tacos are off the hook."
Owner Kim Kuhljuergen says he was inspired by a recent visit to Hawaii. "I went to Maui," he says. "I went into this little cafe, called Coconuts Cafe, about 800 square feet. And it had the most amazing fish tacos I've ever had. Grilled Mahi Mahi, coconut milk coleslaw, mango salsa."
When he came back to Arizona, he wondered if the concept could work here in Arizona as well. He approached the owner, and persuaded him to open a franchise in Scottsdale.
A short time later, Kuhljuergen brought those authentic island tastes to the Valley of the Sun, with a new Scottsdale location and a menu full of fish tacos. "Altogether there are about seven layers and 17 different ingredients in these," he says, describing the fish tacos. "They're messy as heck, and you've got to eat them with your hands. You've got to go for it."
Along with tacos, Coconuts customers will also find coconut shrimp, seafood chowder and grilled fish and rice.
Kuhljuergen is actively seeking his second location in the North Phoenix/Paradise Valley corridor. He plans to open five restaurants total in five years across the Valley.
Coconuts is located at 16640 N. Scottsdale Road, Suite #103 in Scottsdale. For more information call (480) 275-6690 or visit coconutsfishcafe.com/scottsdale.
