PHOENIX -- When it comes to playtime, one Valley mom is getting creative. And now she has turned her ideas for fun into a successful family business.

Janette Harwell is the founder of Box Play for Kids, a line of stickers that promotes creative play to stimulate the imagination of children.

Harwell is a graphic designer whose specialties include product packaging. So it was natural for her to come up with stickers that are specially sized for use with everyday items, like milk cartons, shoe boxes and cereal boxes.

She found the idea close to home. "My daughter, when she was two and a half, inspired this product line," Harwell says. "She was obsessed with two things: stickers and empty boxes.'

So Harwell, along with her husband Greg, took items commonly found in recycling bins, like boxes, milk cartons, egg cartons,  and toilet paper rolls, and created stickers for them. "We designed custom stickers to re-purpose them into new toys."

The company offers about 40 different styles of stickers. All the stickers are printed on 100 percent recycled paper with vegetable-based inks.

Any advice for other busy moms with good ideas? She advises other "mom-preneurs to be passionate, start slowly, and try out your ideas out on friends before investing too much time and money. "You always  learn as you go," Harwell says. "When challenges come up you just need to adapt and change."

You can find these stickers online at BoxPlayforKids.com. Also, below is a list of Valley retailers where they are available.
