PHOENIX -- Arizonans are opening their hearts and their wallets for the second-annual Arizona Gives Day.

Presented by FirstBank, Arizona Gives Day is a 24-hour online initiative encouraging Arizonans to recognize and financially support the efforts of various nonprofits from all over the state.

Arizonans can go online at www.azgives.org until 11:59 p.m. tonight and pledge their financial support to the nonprofit of their choice.

By 11 a.m., nearly 6,000 people had already contributed more than $550,000 to the 1,000 organizations taking part in Arizona Gives Day, dubbed "the day our state unites to build a better tomorrow." Throughout the morning donations were coming in at an average of $60,000 per hour.

Last year, the initiative raised more than $1 million for Arizona non-profit organizations.
