PHOENIX -- It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience -- seeing the Olympics. If that sounds completely beyond your price range, think again.

While it won't necessarily be on the cheap, there are decent fares to London available, making the trip doable on a budget, especially if you do some research and are willing to stay some distance from the action.

Travel expert Jeanenne Tornatore, a senior editor with Orbitz.com, explained, going over everything from getting there to where to stay to getting around the city and surrounding areas.

Tornatore said that as of Monday morning, airfare from Phoenix to London to make it time for Opening ceremonies was starting at about $1,1000 for a round-trip ticket.

Most the events will be taking place in central London, and while there are rooms available, there are less expensive options near the airports.

"If you go, do not even attempt to rent a car," Tornatore advised while talking about London's public-transit system. "Public transportation is absolutely the cheapest and most convenient way to go."
