SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Some of the PGA's greats were on the green at the TPC Scottsdale earlier this month and there was a record number of spectators in attendance.
The third-round attendance of 173,210 set an all-time single-day record in Waste Management Phoenix Open and professional golf history, according to officials.
With sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, golf fans showed up in droves to watch golfers such as Bubba Watson, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and third-round tournament leader Spencer Levin.
The previous single-day attendance mark of 170,802 was set in 2008.
Through six days of the 2012 Waste Management Phoenix Open, 459,815 golf fans have gone through the tournament gates, officials said.
