Phoenix Film Critics Society’s Best Films of 2012 is a Mixed Bag of Treats

You won’t find “Django Unchained” here.  Ditto for blockbuster “The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey”.   “Argo” has been honored with the title of Best Film of 2012 by the Phoenix Film Critics Society.  But the film did not enjoy the big sweep of awards like last year’s “The Artist”.  That film nabbed 9 awards in total while this year’s film, based on the true story of Americans rescued out of revolutionary Iran in 1980, only got a total of 3 awards.  But the Phoenix Film Critics Society had a lot of love for “Life of Pi”, “Moonrise Kingdom”, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and “Skyfall”, all of which earned 3 awards in addition to being on the list of Top Ten Films of 2012

But do I think “Argo” is the Best Picture of the year?  While I always have been a fan of the movie picked by the Society even if it isn’t my personal pick, this year I can’t make that claim.  I am no fan of "Argo".  I was bored, thought the Americans being rescued were obnoxious and was really disappointed as I didn’t get what all the brouhaha was about.  My personal vote is for “Life of Pi”.

Here is the complete list of this year’s PFSC winners, along with my picks in the top 5 categories.
