Gru, the evil mastermind turned surrogate Father of the Year to three orphaned girls, is back and he’s better than ever.  Not only is he kinder, gentler, sweeter but “Despicable Me 2” is even better the second time around, too.  And if you saw “Despicable Me,” you know that’s saying a lot!

Gru has settled into domestic bliss raising little Edith, Agnes and Margo, when he is kidnapped by wacky, overzealous secret agent Lucy.  Using a car that turns into a submarine (taunting future generations with vehicles that were predicted would exist for my generation!); Lucy whisks Gru away to AVL’s secret underwater headquarters.  There the Anti-Villain League tries to recruit Gru to help them fight a new powerful super criminal.  But little does Gru know, the super criminal has already targeted his household, namely Gru’s numerous minions.  Oh yeah, the minions are back and they too are bigger and better!

“Despicable Me 2” is filled with memorable, colorful imagery.  The world where Gru and family live is a huge candy land you could get lost in!  And the new characters are just as colorful.  Kristen Wiig brings Lucy to high strung life, while Benjamin Bratt oozes guacamole smooth charm as criminal mastermind El Macho.  And one simply cannot give enough credit to the hoard of voices that bring the masses of minions to wonderful life.  The voices and animators stand on the verge of stealing every scene.  Only an actor of great skill can compete.  It’s a feat that Steve Carell handles beautifully without missing a beat.

And when it comes to animation, can we talk 3-D?  “Despicable Me 2” is wildly creative but the credits are just a chance to throw everything fun at the audience just because they can.  It is an ooo-ahhh moment not to be missed!

For a cool, fun escape for kids of all ages, I highly recommend this warm, funny and rousing adventure with Gru and family for your Arizona Family!
