PHOENIX -- Anthony Mackie ("Hurt Locker," "Million Dollar Baby," "We Are Marshall") stars in a new seat-of-your-pants thriller called "Man on a Ledge." He's not the man on the ledge. That's Sam Worthington ("Avatar," "Clash of the Titans").

Mackie plays Mike Ackerman, and while he doesn't go out on the ledge himself, he does lean far out the window to talk to Worthington's character, who is trying to prove he was set up as the fall guy for a crime.

Mackie told 3TV's Scott Pasmore that he loved the story. He said it usually takes him about a week to get through a script, especially if the plot doesn't grab him right away.

"This one, I burned through it in an hour in a half," he said, describing the movie as a suspense-thriller. "I was excited to be a part of it … It's a lot of fun.

"I feel like a lot of movies now, they either have suspense and no thrill, or thrill and no suspense," he continued. "I think this is one of those old-school movies where you get both."

Mackie, who just wrapped work on "Ten Year" and "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," is currently filming the crime drama "Gangster Squad," which also stars Sean Penn, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Ed Harris, Elizabeth Banks and Jamie Bell also star in "Man on a Ledge."

"Man on a Ledge" is rated PG-13. It opens Friday, Jan. 27.
