PHOENIX -- Police are investigating after a Phoenix daycare center was vandalized over the weekend.
When the owners of Christian Child Care at 39th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard showed up Monday morning they found a big mess.
"They got toner and they threw it all over the carpet. Now we have to replace the carpet," said Joanna Montoya. "They broke windows. I mean that was pretty much unnecessary."
Joanna has run the facility with her husband Ralph for 16 years.
"We left Friday at 6 p.m. and this morning I came at 6 a.m. and I found it trashed," said Ralph Montoya with Christian Child Care.
The couple moved their child care services to a nearby church while they work to fix the damage.
"We're a child care. People need our services," said Joanna.
"It's unfortunate that we have burglary suspects hitting those who are taking care of our kids," said Sgt. Trent Crump with the Phoenix Police Dept.
For now, the Montoya's are cleaning up and carrying on with the hopes of getting their operation back to normal very soon.
"I'm sad about it...I see ourselves as good people. We help people and we help the families and I just don't understand how somebody could do that," said Joanna.
