GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- A dog that was adopted by an Arizona National Guard solider in Afghanistan has made a long trip to Michigan.

The Grand Rapids Press reports that Blanco arrived Monday night at Gerald R. Ford International Airport and quickly began sprinting around the cargo delivery parking lot.

The dog's long journey was via Pakistan, New York and Detroit.

Lee Chandler, 28, is an Army sergeant based in Kabul. The Grand Valley State University graduate is ending his tour this month.

Chandler sent Blanco to the U.S. ahead of him, and the dog is going to live for now with Chandler's mother and stepfather in Rose City.

Chandler plans to take the dog to Arizona after he returns to the U.S. from Afghanistan.
