PHOENIX -- A pit bull and two of her puppies were rescued after coyotes apparently carried off part of the litter and now the rescuers are asking for a little help.

The Animals Benefit Club of Arizona was notified about the canine family through an e-mail from a rescue organization.

According to Andra Jeffress with the Animals Benefit Club, the dog and her litter of puppies were living in an abandoned building on the Salt River Indian Reservation by Fort McDowell Casino. Jeffress said rescuers believe that a couple of the puppies were carried off by coyotes.

The mom has two 8-day-old puppies left, one male and one female.

Tribal police took Sage and her puppies to their station and then the facility took them in after receiving the e-mail.

"They're just precious and she is lovely, absolutely lovely," Jeffress said. "This dog is so incredibly sweet."

The animals are in need of some medical care and the facility is in need of funding.

"When something comes in like this, it's costly, there's a lot of medical care," Jeffress said. "They have to be spayed, they have to be neutered, we have to make sure their blood looks good and that they're healthy before they ever go home."

Jeffress said the organization is run by volunteers and any support would be greatly appreciated. Visit www.animalsbenefitclub.com to donate or for more information.

After the dogs' medical needs are taken care of, they will be put up for adoption.
