PHOENIX -- Two "handy-capable" Chihuahuas are looking for their forever home.

Flauta and her brother, Tamale, arrived at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control six months ago when they were just 2 weeks old.

Flauta has severe deformity of her right front leg and doesn't use it to walk. The upper and lower parts of the leg are fused at a right angle at the elbow with no paw. Her left front leg and paw also have deformities, but she is able to use them.

MCACC spokeswoman Aprille Hollis said Tamale's deformities are more extreme. He doesn't have any front legs. MCACC staff tried several different types of carts but he wanted nothing to do with them.

Staff members started doing exercises to help him work on his balance and Tamale has been mobile ever since.

The siblings made it through parvo and kennel cough and are now ready for a new home. Officials would like them to stay together as they are very close.

If you are interested in adopting them, email and explain why you think you should be their forever home.

Saving severely injured animals can be quite taxing on MCACC staff. For more information about how you can help MCACC and other animals like Flauta and Tamale, visit
