PHOENIX -- A dog who spent almost an entire year in a shelter has finally found a place to call home.

Dixie, who was profiled on 3TV this week, was adopted Wednesday afternoon by a family that saw her story on TV.

Dixie had been staying with the Arizona Animal Welfare League for more than 320 days, although it's not because she bites people or is poorly trained.

Dixie happens to be great with children, but not cats. She even has all her basic commands down and she is micro-chipped and spayed.

The staff says certain dogs sometimes just get passed over.

“We've all spent quite a bit of time with her because she's been here so long,” said Michelle Ramos, director of education for the Arizona Animal Welfare League. “Many of our volunteers are attached to her, as well. Everybody is hoping and crossing their fingers that she finds the right place to live.”

Dixie is an Australian cattle dog mix. Maybe she isn't the cutest of the bunch, but by all accounts she is well-behaved and loves cuddling and car rides.

While Dixie is no longer available, the Arizona Animal Welfare League would love to hear from you if you're interested in giving an animal a home.
