CHANDLER -- A Chandler couple are accused of defrauding a school of at least $20,000 after an audit uncovered false invoices.
Laurie Bassett worked in the finance department at Dobson Academy School near Dobson and Warner roads in Chandler.
According to the Chandler Police Department, Bassett made false invoices for janitorial and school supplies over the past year. After making an invoice, Bassett would write a check to herself or to her husband for the cost of the supplies.
During an audit, the school noticed a 300 percent increase in school supplies and determined Bassett was embezzling money.
On Tuesday, police arrested Bassett for fraud schemes, theft and 25 counts of forgery.
James Bassett has not been located and is wanted for forgery.
He is described as Caucasian, approximately 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with brown eyes and blond hair. He drives a 1985 Chevrolet van with Arizona plate AEB-9980 and works in the construction industry.
