PHOENIX -- The Arizona Supreme Court is refusing to hear a teachers union challenge to the constitutionality of budget legislation affecting public school employees.
The justices on Tuesday declined without comment to consider a special-action lawsuit filed by the Arizona Education Association.
The lawsuit challenged a 2009 budget law as unconstitutional, partly on grounds that its contents weren't included as topics for
a summer special legislative session on budget matters.
The legislation dealt with such topics as teachers' seniority rights in layoffs and deadlines for school districts to decide
whether to renew contracts.
The court in December declined to review a similar challenge mounted by the League of Arizona Cities and Towns against another budget law.
