PHOENIX -- It's that time of the year again. As Valley temperatures rise, so too do the health risks for the homeless and elderly population.
For the sixth year in a row, The Salvation Army and 3TV have teamed up to collect bottled water to protect the Valley's unfortunate.
Col. Olin Hogan of The Salvation Army said 100 people died last year because of dehydration. This year he hopes that number is zero.
On Saturday, The Salvation Army, 3TV, APS and Safeway hosted a bottled water drive and summer safety fair. Throughout the day, cases upon cases of bottled water were dropped off.
New this year is Safeway's involvement.
Donations of bottled water and cash will continue to be accepted by The Salvation Army through the summer months. To learn more about how you can donate please contact Abby Rolfs at The Salvation Army via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 602-267-4170.
