Phoenix — After a careful review and a rigorous selection process, Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC) is excited to announce the following extraordinary educators as the 2013 Esperanza Latino Teacher Award recipients:
- Graciela Jáuregui, Getz School – Tempe, AZ
- Guillermina Lorona, Villago Middle School – Casa Grande, AZ
- Rich Mayorga, Sunnyside High School – Tucson, AZ
- Jeanette Scott, Cesar Chavez High School – Laveen, AZ
CPLC will award a $5,000 cash stipend to each honoree and a donation of $2,500 to their respective schools. In addition, each teacher will receive a scholarship to pay 50% tuition towards a masters program at Grand Canyon University, and other prizes.
This event continues to be the only awards program in Arizona that specifically recognizes Latino teachers who are nominated by their peers. To date, CPLC has recognized over 100 outstanding Latino educators who continue to positively impact communities across the state.
Community and business leaders will honor the winners on Thursday, October 10 at the 15th Annual Esperanza Latino Teacher Awards Ceremony, presented by SRP and Cox Communications in collaboration with The Arizona Republic, Gila River Indian Community and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown.
