"Ms. American Pie"

PHOENIX -- Beth Howard, the author of  "Ms. American Pie," knows pie, and she is ready to help you whip up the perfect springtime or Easter dessert.

She has baked pies for   Barbra Streisand (lemon meringue), Dick Van Dyke (strawberry rhubarb), and Steven Spielberg (coconut cream) , and now she has loaded up her RV for a cross-country tour to share 80 of her best recipes with you.

Howard has a demo and signing scheduled at Changing Hands Bookstore on April 16. Changing Hands is located at 6428 S. McClintock Drive, Tempe.

Mamma Toledo's Pie and Homemade Desserts

Tonya Saidi calls herself a self-taught pie-baking specialist.

"When I bake for someone it is a very special gift from me; I pour my heart and soul into the entire process, my compassion and love for humanity is expressed in my baking," she said. "I have always said that it tastes so good because it is baked with love."

After years of baking for family and friends, she decided to share her pies with Valley, launching Mamma Toledo's (with the tag line, "We'll shut your pie hole!") in 2010, and the first -- and still only -- pie truck in Phoenix in 2011.

Mamma Toldeo's: The Pie Hole, which is where the baking magic happens, is located at 110 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix. To place and order, call 602-332-7346.
