It's called the Bonus Years Diet and the man that developed it claims it can literally add years to your life.

Dr. Ralph Felder claims he not only has the perfect diet for shedding unwanted pounds, but his unique program will help you live a longer life.

"We have taken the best cardiovascular research in the last 25 years and taken it from the laboratory and brought it into your kitchen," Felder said.

It's called the Bonus Years Diet, but you could also call it a prescription because not only is Felder a master-trained chef, he's also a doctor who specializes in cardiology.

"So what we've done is to dose food just like you can dose medicines," he said.

Felder's diet includes a daily combination of foods such as dark chocolate, red wine and a clove of garlic along with the usual fruits, veggies and lean meats.

He claims it all adds up to give you extra years on your lifespan.

"The result of all those factors is that you reduce your cardiovascular risk by 75 percent, which translates to 6.4 bonus years to life," Felder said.

Ed Hancock said he went on the Bonus Years Diet because he has hypertension and wanted to get off medication.

He said the program is easy.

"We're learning a lot about techniques and foods we haven't tried before," Hancock said.

So does it work?

Hancock said the proof is in the numbers.

"My total cholesterol went from 208 to 163, weight went down around 11 pounds, energy went way up," Hancock said.

We talked with several other people who also said their cholesterol had gone down since getting on the diet.
