Claudia Rivero
Claudia Rivero joined NewsChannel 3 in February 2001 as a Reporter/Anchor for ¡MAS! Arizona Cox Cable Channel 55, a Spanish-language news station partially owned by Belo. As a bilingual reporter she frequently filed stories for "Good Evening Arizona." Prior to joining NewsChannel 3, Rivero was a general assignment reporter and fill in news Anchor for the Phoenix Univision affiliate KTVW-Channel 33. There, she spent 6 years.
In March 2004, Rivero became a full-time general assignment reporter for "Good Evening Arizona."
During the three years at ¡MAS! she had the opportunity to cover many stories including the Rodeo-Chedeski fire, the Kinishba fire, the murder of hundreds of women in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the deaths of 14 undocumented immigrants in the desert near Yuma and reported from Ground Zero shortly after September 11.
In 2002, Rivero won an Emmy and an AP Award for "In search of the American Dream," a story which focused on the abuse many undocumented immigrants face in their quest for a better life. She also won an AP Award and was nominated for an Emmy for "48 Hours in New York City," a 30-minute show she produced, wrote, reported and anchored about the aftermath of September 11.
Rivero was born in Mexico City. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1979 and all have called Phoenix home ever since.
Rivero attended the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, especially to New York City. She visits the Big Apple at least twice a year. "It is my home away from home."
